Linkoping is one of the ten largest cities in Sweden. It is located south of Lake Roxen, at the point where the Stongon River intersects with the main historic road leading from Stockholm to Helsingborg. About 142 thousand inhabitants live in it, who are proud of their town and call it the place for turning ideas into reality. Linkoping City dates back to the 12th century. However, his pride is not so much ancient architectural monuments as the presence of ultramodern aviation industry companies.
High tech city
Linkoping (Sweden) deservedly bears the name of the country’s main aviation center. It has its own aviation school, and future pilots hone their skills at a military airfield.
Another important advantage of the city is the university, which was opened in 1975. Previously, only 3,500 students studied there, but now more than 20,000. On the initiative of the city administration, a center was created at the university, in which high technologies and commercial innovations are studied and mastered. This led to a huge push in the development of the city, and flows of multimillion-dollar investments poured here.
The powerful industrial park at the university employs about 240 companies, including global manufacturers from different areas of the national economy. One of the companies (Svensk Biogas AB) produces biogas for transport, which brought Linkoping to a leading position in the production and use of this type of fuel.
Weather and climate
Due to Linkoping’s location near Lake Roxen, summers are warmer here than in other cities in Sweden. The warmest time in July – the temperature rises to +23 degrees. In the same month it often rains. The most favorable time for a trip is June (average temperature +20 degrees), and there is practically no rain.
The coldest months are January and February. At this time, the thermometer column drops to –5 degrees at night, while the average daily temperature is +1 degree.

Its walls are decorated with sculptures of mythical creatures, floral ornaments and human figures. Over time, the cathedral was completed with three Gothic chapels, which were decorated with large windows and an elegant star vault, and many other elements.
In the last century, the cathedral was restored by modern artists and architects. The roof was raised and covered with copper plates. The main entrance was decorated with a mosaic, and the windows were covered with exquisite paintings depicting a young Mary dressed in elegant clothes and floral patterns. The cathedral is equipped with three old bells, one of which is more than 700 years old. The church clock on the tower beats daily, counting the time of life.
Once in this amazing museum, you will be transported 100 years ago and will walk around the old Swedish town. The idea of creating an ethnographic museum in Sweden arose in the last century, when they decided to demolish old buildings and erect modern buildings. So there was Old Linkoping.

The museum stores over 25 thousand exhibits that you will become acquainted with during the tour (old and modern airplanes, tools, engines, uniforms). Interactive excursions are provided for children, on which they will visit as young pilots, dispatchers, and test their strengths in creating their own virtual aircraft.

You can take a break from your impressions in a cozy cafe with an equipped playground. The museum is open daily, except Mondays, from 11 to 17 hours. A ticket costs 2.55 euros, for students and seniors – 1.7 euros. Children under 18 years old do not need a ticket.
Getting acquainted with Linkoping, you should definitely visit the unusual city park Tradgordsferingen – a wonderful oasis in the city center. You will see a rich collection of diverse plants and rare trees.
In the park, you should visit the observation tower, the greenhouse, visit the apiary. Here you can walk on your own or as part of an excursion, buy your favorite plants, have a bite to eat in a cozy cafe or organize a picnic in a clearing.

How to get to Linkoping
There is an airport in Linkoping itself, but it only accepts planes from Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Therefore, it is better to consider other options for the path.
Linkoping from Stockholm can be reached by train from the central station with one change. Trains run at intervals of 30 minutes. The total travel time is 2-3.5 hours. The fare depends on the train and the class of the car and ranges from 150-175 kroons.
